Well...as i am writing this blog is am still in recovery mode from what was one of the most nerve racking and exhilarating weekends in my life as a pastor. This past weekend Revolution launched its first ever Art Premier, called CANVAS. The whole idea was to reach out to a community of people who have either been abandoned by or have themselves abandoned the church.
We wanted to show them that the church isn't solely interested in taking their money, and that we really do care about them and their expression of inspiration. So we threw an art show.
The crazy thing about this whole throwing an art show...is that Mike D and I have...well...never done that before.
We purposed not to charge the Artist and Gallery fee, we did not take a percentage of their sales, we did however market the crap out show, but we did not charge anything at the door. We spent time with the artist, let them know that they were valued, and then the coolest thing hapend...they let me pray over them.
The majority of them do not go to church, and i am only assuming that most of them do not know Jesus either...but what happened last Friday night might have given them a small glimpse into who our God is.
The night was nothing short of magical, as the bands played, and the art was superbly displayed, the coffee flowed like wine, and the people...they did not stop coming.
Over a thousand different people can to church on a Friday night...maybe not church like they have experience before, or seen on TV. there was no offering, there was no message, there were no worship songs, No even cracked open a Bible (to my knowledge) but when the walked into the gallery they walked into the presence of God.
